Oral Hygiene and Nutrition
- Brushing- A tooth brush is used to remove plaque and food debris from the surface of the tooth and gums. Use a tooth brush with SOFT bristles and a thin swipe of fluoride tooth paste. Hold your toothbrush at an angle, brushing slowly but deliberately using small circular motions being careful to cover all surfaces of the tooth and gums. Also, brush the tongue and roof of the mouth before your final rinse. Replace the toothbrush when the bristles start to wear out. Brush a minimum of two times a day. Four times are recommended.
- Flossing- Floss is used to remove plaque and food debris from between the teeth and underneath the gumline. Pull a length of floss from your index finger to your elbow. This should be enough to clean each tooth in the entire mouth. Wrap the floss around the two index or middle fingers to advance the floss as it is used in each area. Your gums may bleed a little initially. If the bleeding persists, please inform our staff at your next visit.
Flossing once a day is recommended.
- Nutrition- Eat a well-balanced diet of healthy foods. Avoid snacks and drinks that are high in sugar. Avoid tobacco use, smoking and/or smokeless tobacco.
